The Sleep Lady Shuffle Myth Buster:

The Sleep Lady Shuffle was developed by Kim West and has been a trusted baby sleep solution for parents worldwide for more than 20 years. Over time, it has taken on many names, including The Shuffle, SLS, and The Chair Method.

The Sleep Lady Shuffle is a gentle and compassionate sleep training technique designed to help parents and their little ones establish healthy sleep habits. Unfortunately, despite my best intentions, the method has fallen victim to misinterpretations that need to be corrected.

The Sleep Lady Shuffle, often colloquially referred to as The Chair Method, has sometimes been incorrectly portrayed online. Throughout the years, sleep enthusiasts have been writing about the Chair Method as though it involves placing a chair next to your child’s bed or crib and leaving them alone with no response to their distress! This couldn't be further from The Chair Method I’ve taught and practiced with parents worldwide.

The Sleep Lady Shuffle (a.k.a The Chair Method), involves placing a chair next to your child's crib or bed and is meant to allow for offering physical and verbal reassurance, so shushing, patting, humming, and picking up to calm your little one are all at play.

Like any sleep method, I acknowledge that the Sleep Lady Shuffle may not work for everyone. However, it's crucial to ensure the right information is being shared with parents, especially during this sometimes very difficult time of parenthood.

In response to the misinformation circulating, I am on a mission to debunk the common misconceptions about sleep coaching and The Sleep Lady Shuffle. I am committed to doing what I can to deliver accurate information and empower parents to make well-informed decisions regarding their children’s sleep.
